How To Be An Ally

What does it mean to truly stand up and speak out for others? What does it mean to be an ally to marginalized groups? This year's Stand Up Speak Out campaign is about creating an understanding of how being an ally can help reduce incident of harm and improve school climates so students and staff feel valued and a sense of belonging.

A- Acceptance Accepting each other's diversity and also accepting and understanding our own biases.

L- Listen Listen to others' perspectives and lived experiences. To be an ally, we need to listen to those whom we are trying to be an ally. When we own our privilege, we will talk less and listen more.

L-Learn Learn from others. Being an ally is a journey of understanding. Be open to learning from others. Embrace uncertainty, and learn about microaggressions, implicit bias and privilege.

Y- You What actions will you take to be an ally? Being an ally means taking action. Commit to the actions you will take to Stand Up Speak Out when necessary.
